As I walk the beloved campus again,
from one lecture to next I watch them hurry
in witty banter they would rather engage.
The books they carry from the library near
to read or ease their scruples is unclear.
Back to their abode, their resident hall,
on a well worn path, carefree they stroll
as riotous colours of fallen flower rebel
against a smooth rolling grassy surround.
They gather again it is evening time
leaving lodgings separating boy from girl.
Blissful couples paired for now or for life
roam along the river in a winding lane.
From afar drifts in a boisterous refrain,
a weak grasp of tune does hardly restrain.
The gym below resonates as it did then
to a radiant display of youthful verve.

Oblivious to them their memories shape.

It now seems strange to take in this place,
its joyful exuberance we once enjoyed,
to witness alone, powerless to share.
Even though my love has gently slipped away,
sweet memories of our time still live and linger
until with me they too will soon disappear.
